Dinner Trieste 26th October

A delegation from Bergamo visits Trieste on the occasion of October 26th

Visiting Trieste on the occasion of the celebrations for the city's return to Italy, three third-grade classes from the “Enea Salmeggia” middle school (IC San Paolo d'Argon) of Cenate Sotto (BG), accompanied by teachers, the head teacher and the mayor Thomas Algeri, were received this morning (Wednesday 26 October) in the municipal council chamber by the mayor Roberto Dipiazza, also present were the president of the municipal assembly Francesco Di Paola Panteca and the president of the National League Paolo Sardos Albertini.

The young people, who previously also participated in the flag-raising ceremony, held in Piazza Unità d'Italia, thus had the opportunity to further explore and learn about aspects and themes linked to the history of Trieste and in particular to the dramas of the twentieth century. The trip to Trieste is in fact - it was explained - the recognition of an intense work that the students carried out last year on the theme of the Eastern Border, carried out with the support of the Provincial Committees of Bergamo and Milan of the National Association of Venezia Giulia and Dalmatia and the National League of Trieste.

In welcoming and bringing the city's welcome greeting to the guests, Mayor Roberto Dipiazza also retraced and underlined the complex and dramatic history of these lands, marked by the exodus of approximately 350 thousand Italians from Istria, Fiume and Dalmatia, highlighting the positive steps and the path of pacification achieved, which now allow Trieste to look to the future with ever greater confidence.

Beyond the traditional exchange of gifts, the delegation of Cenate Sotto, led by the mayor Thomas Algeri, with the school principal, teachers and students, has officially invited the mayor Dipiazza to participate, on November 30, in the ceremony that, in the small Bergamo town of 4000 inhabitants, will see the unveiling of a 35 quintal Karst stone monument as an indelible reminder of the close bond between Cenate Sotto and the Istrian-Julian-Dalmatian cause.
