A LIFE FOR POLA Cover

“A Life for Pola”, the first graphic novel by Stefano Zecchi

The first graphic novel by Stephen Zecchi, one of the great protagonists of Italian culture. An emotional, dramatic story and full of adventures of an Istrian family fleeing from violence by Yugoslav troops of Marshal Tito. The volume, published by Ferrogallic, comes out on February 10th to celebrate, with a work of extraordinary sensitivity, the Remembrance Day. With the screenplay adaptation of Federico Goglio and the wonderful drawings of Joseph Botte.

A life for Pola It is the comic book adaptation of When our hearts were beating fast, Stefano Zecchi's novel dedicated to the Istrian exodus. «I wrote a novel that today can also be read in this graphic novel, simple, direct, immediate in its choice of field and for the truth it wants to tell. The story of a family from Istria who lived in the period of a tragic History. I tried to tell what a "normal" family could have experienced in the tragedy of that time, when Pola was about to be handed over to Tito and was about to become a Yugoslavian city after millennia of Roman, Italian civilization. I wanted to tell the story of the martyrdoms and torture suffered by the Italians, through the stories of a father, a mother, a small son who lived in Pola. And, together with theirs, the stories of the friends they met, of their schoolmates, of the people of an Italian community without the guilt of fascism, with the only guilt of being Italian, of being proud of being the Italians who lived in those lands».
