The conference “Towards GO!2025” was held this week at the European Parliament in Brussels, presenting the objectives and activities of the European Capital of Culture. The Councilor for Culture of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Mario Anzil, emphasized that regional contributions, combined with community funds, “will reach 100 million euros for the entire program”.

“We were the outlet of the Austro-Hungarian Empire into the Mediterranean, the armed garrison of the eastern border and today, thanks to our commitment, being the European Capital of Culture can pave the way to writing a new history”.
With these words, the deputy governor of Friuli Venezia Giulia and councilor for culture, Mario Anzil, presented the Capital of Culture 2025, the great event that will involve Nova Gorica and Gorizia next year, and which was illustrated during the conference “Towards GO!2025”, created to bring the objectives and activities of the European Capital of Culture to Brussels, at the seat of the European Parliament.
“We have – said Anzil – a network of quality cultural operators that we want to show to Europe: GO!2025 does not have a geographical limit in Nova Gorica and Gorizia, but extends to the entire regional territory, just as it does not have a chronological limit in 2025, but will produce effects also in the years to come”.
The councilor underlined how the region has opened a series of contributions that, combined with community funds, "will reach 100 million euros on the entire programming".
Also present at the conference was the mayor of Gorizia, Rodolfo Ziberna, who spoke of an “extraordinary opportunity to publicize the entire Friuli Venezia Giulia and to lay the foundations for the enlargement of Europe to the Balkans: Anzil himself thanked the Municipality of Gorizia which, he said, “took on a great deal of work, to which the Region supported with resources and administrative collaboration”.
The president of Gect Go, Paolo Petiziol, then announced that in 2025 the plenary meeting of Interreg will be held in Gorizia, with all the European countries that operate on community projects, an event that will bring hundreds of officials to the European Capital of Culture, while at the end of June the representatives of all the cross-border cities of Europe will arrive in Gorizia.
